  35. WHAT IS ADRIFT SCREENSAVER
  36. ----------------------------
  37.  
  38. Adrift ScreenSaver is a 32bit Windows 95 screensaver.
  39.  
  40. Adrift draws floating lines across the screen, creating beautiful patterns
  41. while you are not using your computer.
  42.  
  43. Adrift starts a new pattern every minute.
  44.  
  45. Supports 16 color VGA, 256 color SVGA, and 24-bit color.

  48. INSTALLATION
  49. ------------
  50.  
  51. 1. From the directory you have decompressed into, copy the file adrift.scr
  52.    into your windows\system directory, usually c:\windows\system.
  53.  
  54. 2. Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  55.  
  56. 3. Double click on the Display icon.
  57.  
  58. 4. Click on the Screensaver tab.
  59.  
  60. 5. In the Screen Saver list, select Adrift.
  61.  
  62. 6. Click Preview to run the screensaver.
  63.  
  64. 7. Press Settings to display registration and support details, and access
  65.    configuration options.
  66.  
  67.  
  68. Once you have Adrift running, you do not need to keep the other files on
  69. your system. i.e. you just need adrift.scr installed in your Windows or
  70. Windows\System directory.
  71.  
  72. SETUP OPTIONS
  73. -------------
  74.  
  75. Configuration options are available from the Control Panel/Desktop/Setup
  76. screen by pressing the Options button.
  77.  
  78. REGISTERED VERSION OPTIONS
  79. --------------------------
  80.  
  81. HIDE MOUSE
  82.     Selecting this option means the mouse cursor will disappear while the
  83.     screensaver is running.
  84.  
  85. STAY ON TOP
  86.     This is useful when you have a menu bar, clock, or other program which
  87.     normally stays visible over all other windows, including screensavers.
  88.     Select this option to have Adrift cover these windows. Its use is not
  89.     recommended if you have other programs running which can periodically
  90.     display a message (such as Mail, a Reminder or other scheduled program),
  91.     as you will not see these messages. Also in these cases, the other program
  92.     will have control of the keyboard, even though it is not visible, so
  93.     pressing Escape will clear the message rather than stopping Adrift, and
  94.     you will not get to see the message.
  95.  
  96. IGNORE MOUSE FOR WAKE-UP
  97.     Selecting this option means only use of the keyboard will stop the
  98.     screensaver. It's useful if your mouse likes to move of its own accord, or
  99.     is easily bumped. Not recommended if you are also using Stay on Top.

  102. PASSWORD PROTECTION
  103. -------------------
  104.     Warning: the security of your machine is not guaranteed when using the Adrift
  105.     password protection because due to the complexity of the screensaver and
  106.     different machine configurations, there is the possibility that Adrift may
  107.     crash and leave your machine available.
  108.  
  109.  
  110. RUNTIME OPTIONS
  111. ---------------
  112.  
  113. While the screensaver is running, the following keys can be used:
  114.  
  115. F5   The current drawing will Finish.
  116.  
  117. o    Displays an order form, which can be printed.
  118.  
  119. p    Pressing p will cause Adrift pause at the end of the current
  120.      drawing,  and not continue until you press 'p' again. This is useful, for
  121.      example,if Adrift is drawing something slowly, and you would like to
  122.      see how it ends up, but you have to leave the room for a while. Or if you
  123.      would like the chance to copy it to the clipboard when it's finished
  124.      before it gets overwritten. It doesn't pause immediately, but at the end
  125.      of the current drawing. When you have finished with the paused screen,
  126.      press 'p' again to start Adrift off again. (Registered version only)
  127.  
  128. +    If you are running in 256 color mode, then Adrift uses 'sliding' colors
  129.      to animate the image. Pressing + will increase the speed of the
  130.      animation.
  131.  
  132. -    Decreases the speed of the animation.
  133.  
  134. n    Stops all animation for the current run. Useful if it is too distracting
  135.      while you work.
  136.  
  137. SAVING IMAGES
  138. -------------
  139.  
  140. Pressing the PrintScreen function key will copy the full screen to the
  141. clipboard, and you can then paste that into a paint program and save or
  142. print the image.

  151. Adrift ScreenSaver is "try before you buy" software, and is provided with a
  152. free 14-day evaluation period.

  154. When you register Adrift, it will
  155.     * allow the use of run-time keystroke options listed above
  156.     * allow password protection (Windows 3.1 only)
  157.     * enable the mouse options
  158.     * remove registration reminder messages...
  159.  
  160. The screensaver displays a registration reminder message when the program
  161. finishes running.  On receipt of your registration fee, you will be mailed,
  162. faxed or emailed a code which will remove these messages.  This registration
  163. code is entered into the Registration field on the Setup screen.
  164.  
  165. Your support through registration is appreciated and will encourage the
  166. development of additional graphics and features.
  167.

  191. form can also be displayed and printed from the Control Panel Setup screen, or
  192. by pressing 'o' while Adrift is running.

  195. on-line on Compuserve.  After logging on to Compuserve, GO SWREG, and
  196. request ID 14123.

  198. In order to keep the cost of Adrift low, diskettes are not sent.

  200. These prices and conditions are valid until 31st January 1998 for this version,
  201. and are subject to change with future versions.

  203. If you have already paid a fee to others (eg disk or CD vendors) to obtain
  204. this evaluation copy, that fee was for their copying and distribution
  205. services, rather than a payment for continued use of the program, and the
  206. software author does not receive any part of that fee.

  253. OTHER CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

  256. Credit card payments may also be made directly to Seraline, using VISA,
  257. Mastercard, or Australian Bankcard. A printable order form in MS Write format
  258. is in the file order.wri, which can then be faxed or mailed to Seraline. An
  259. order form can also be printed from the Control Panel Setup screen, or by
  260. pressing 'o' while Adrift is running.  The details required are your name,
  261. Credit Card type, card number, card expiry date and your signature.  These
  262. details can be mailed, or faxed to Seraline in Australia +61-2-9879-4481.

  264. When ordering directly from Seraline, credit cards are billed at exactly
  265. $17.95 Australian.  For other currencies, the amount appearing on your card
  266. will depend on the foreign exchange rate at the time. For example, at rates
  267. current in November 1996, this converts to an amount varying around US$13.95.

  272. EMAIL REGISTRATION
  273. ------------------

  275. Due to the number of different computers messages pass through on the
  276. internet, email security can be a concern.
  277.  
  278. We support PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) encryption for sending credit card
  279. details securely by email.  To receive our public key, send an email message
  280. to porum@ozemail.com.au with "send public key" as the subject. On receipt of
  281. our key, create a text message containing your name, credit card type (VISA,
  282. Mastercard, or Australian Bankcard), credit card number and expiry date. Use
  283. the separately available PGP software package to encrypt the message, and
  284. email it to porum@ozemail.com.au.

  286. If you don't have PGP, you may like to split the details over several
  287. email messages. Avoid mention of words like "credit card", and use an
  288. abbreviation for the credit card type, eg V for Visa or M for Mastercard.
  289. Send the expiry date in a separate message, and split the card number over
  290. several messages, but ensure there is some sequence number that makes it
  291. obvious to us what the sequence is.

  293. Emailing credit card details using any method is at your own risk.

  299. Adrift ScreenSaver is NOT a public domain program.  It is copyrighted by
  300. Seraline Pty Ltd.  This software and accompanying documentation are protected
  301. by Australian copyright law and also by international treaty provisions.
  302.  
  303. The registration fee will license Adrift ScreenSaver for use on any
  304. computers in your home, and on one computer at work on which you are the
  305. main user.
  306.  
  307. Seraline Pty Ltd grants you a limited license to use this software for
  308. evaluation purposes for a period not to exceed fourteen days.  If you continue
  309. using this software after the fourteen-day evaluation period, you MUST make a
  310. registration payment to Seraline Pty Ltd.
  311.  
  312. You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile, disassemble,
  313. otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed program except as
  314. provided in this agreement.  Any such unauthorized use shall result in
  315. immediate and automatic termination of this license.

  318. VENDINFO.DIZ.

  320. Seraline Pty Ltd may revoke any permissions granted here, by notifying you in

  331. Please note that although Adrift is released with no known defects that
  332. cause crashes, because of the extensive calculations and graphics and many
  333. permutations, it may still crash occasionally due to incompatibilities with
  334. video drivers.  You should use the evaluation period to check that
  335. Adrift does not cause problems with your system.
